AMP Competitive Cheer

team cheer.jpg

AMP competitive cheer teams are structured in accordance with the levels and guidelines set by the All-Star World Championships held each April in Orlando, Florida. Our teams cater to various skill levels, ranging from Level 1 for beginners to Level 6 for advanced athletes. The program is thoughtfully designed to facilitate the growth and development of athletes’ skills through safe and effective progressions.

A typical cheer season at AMP is divided into three segments:

Tryouts and Evaluations for the All-Star Cheerleading program take place from early May to late May. During this period, athletes have the opportunity to showcase their individual skills, including tumbling, jumps, and stunting, in front of the coaching staff. The coaches will evaluate each athlete and assign them to a practice group based on age and skill level. Subsequently, they will determine which teams are likely to be the most successful for the upcoming season and place each athlete accordingly.

Pre-Season typically begins in mid to late June and extends through August. During this period, athletes concentrate on skill development and choreography routines. In the skill development phase, athletes learn the fundamentals of stunts, baskets, pyramids, tumbling, and jumps from AMP Athletics' instructors, alongside guest instructors who specialize in these areas. Following skill development, athletes will integrate these learned elements into a competitive routine during the choreography segment of the summer. AMP Athletics collaborates with some of the country’s top choreographers to support the coaching staff in the creation of these routines. Once choreography is finalized, teams will dedicate the subsequent months to preparing for Competition Season.

Competition Season typically starts in early winter, around December or January, and extends through the spring, concluding in April or May. As participants in the competitive cheer program, athletes engage in local competitions against other cheerleading facilities in the area and have the opportunity to travel to out-of-state events to compete nationally. The specifics of travel competitions are determined by the age and skill levels of the teams.
