USJO Competitive Gymnastics Teams

AMP Athletics is proud to offer competitive gymnastics teams that are specific to the athlete’s individual skill level and pace. We are proud to offer competitive gymnastics teams for levels 3, 4, 5, and Optionals. We offer women’s competitive gymnastics teams that follow USA Gymnastics (United States Association of Gymnastics), the worldwide governing body of all official gymnastics- programs and competitions. To read more about the USA Gymnastics, please visit their site here. Our teams are placed by skill level and require an individual evaluation by one of our USA Gymnastics certified coaches.

As a team member on our competitive gymnastics teams, gymnasts will learn how to set and achieve goals, develop self-discipline, learn responsibility, and develop a strong work ethic. Throughout the process of moving through our competitive team program, gymnasts will build strong mental attributes such as positive self-image, self-motivation, tenacity, patience, and a willingness to sacrifice for personal development. In addition to all of these exciting advancements, some of the unique characteristics of a developing gymnast include the following: strength, flexibility, kinesthetic awareness, balance, muscular control, endurance, coordination, timing, explosive power, agility, and speed.

Each gymnast will develop close relationships with other young athletes that will demand the best of her skills to be successful as to be an effective role model. We are excited that you are interested in joining the AMP Athletics Family as part of our USA Gymnastics Teams!

Our teams are divided into the following groups:

Competition begins at the compulsory level. Compulsory means that gymnasts must perform, and compete for the same routine as all other competitors on all four USA Gymnastics events. This results in mastery of the most fundamental and basic gymnastics elements. This allows for judging to be much more neutral, as the judges do not have to take into consideration routine bias on a theme or overall look. When certain biases are eliminated, it allows for athletes to have a fair chance and leaves the scoring to technique.

Skills for USA Gymnastics Level 3 include handstand flat back to mat stack, pullover, back hip circles, tap swings on bars, handstands, and leaps on beam, and round-off back handsprings.

Skills for USA Gymnastics Level 4 include front handspring vault, kips, front hip circles, back hip circles, tap swings on bars, cartwheels, handstands, and leaps on beam, and round-off back handsprings, front handsprings, and dive rolls on the floor.

Skills for USA Gymnastics Level 5:  include front handspring vault, kips, free hip circles, baby giants, and fly-a-ways on bars, back walkovers, handstands, and turns on beam, and round-off back handspring back tuck and front tucks on floor.

LEVEL 6, 7, 8, 9, 10

As a gymnast advances, they begin competing as an Optional gymnast. Optional gymnastics provides opportunities for a gymnast to perform to their strengths; while they must meet specific requirements they also have many options as they compose their competitive routines. This level of competition can take years of progression through the designated levels.
Some of the advanced skills for these levels include round off entry vaults, release moves and pirouettes on bars, back handspring and layouts on beam, and double flipping and twisting on floor.

Our Junior Olympics compulsory season is November through March, concluding with the State being in March. Levels 8 - 10 have the opportunity to make it to the regional, and levels 9 and 10 have the opportunity to make it nationals falling in April and May.
